CIMARRÓN —one of the most prominent production companies in Latin America, integrated into THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO since 2023— is taking over leadership of the company’s operations in the region under the STUDIO’s global direction. CIMARRÓN will coordinate all offices and production teams across the continent to drive growth and strengthen the operational structure in Latin America.

The announcement coincides with the start of operations of CIMARRÓN (THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO) in Brazil, where the company will soon have its own office and team. The addition of this market, given the quality and scale of its audiovisual industry, reinforces the company’s presence throughout the region.

Marta Ezpeleta, CEO of THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, said: “CIMARRÓN is one of our most strategic assets in Latin America. Its unique identity, top-tier relationships, and solid track record allow us to take a decisive step in our expansion across the region. With the experience of its team —led by Santiago López, Diego Robino, and Hernán Musaluppi— we are strengthening the structure needed to continue growing and to elevate the volume, excellence, and reach of our productions in a market where THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO already has a consolidated presence.”

“We are taking on the leadership of THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO’s operations in Latin America with a reinforced team and a clear roadmap. Launching operations in Brazil is a natural step in our company’s growth. This new stage also includes the addition of Andrés Gelós as creative producer for Latin America, complementing our portfolio of original projects. He is a talent we have worked with for a long time, and we are thrilled to have him join our production company. These are concrete moves that reflect where CIMARRÓN stands today and where we are headed,” said Santiago López, CEO of CIMARRÓN (THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO).

An Argentine producer, creator, screenwriter, and author, Andrés Gelós had already collaborated with CIMARRÓN and THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO as a writer on series created by Daniel Burman: Yosi, The Regretful Spy (Prime Video), Maledictions (Netflix), and So Far, So Good, soon to premiere on Flow. He is also the creator of titles such as Payback: una somos dos (Disney+ Latin America), Cumbia Ninja, and Kdabra (Fox).

In this new phase, Catalina Porto, director of THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO in Mexico and Colombia, will continue leading both markets as creative producer within CIMARRÓN’s structure.

The company will also boost the creation of non-fiction formats and content in Latin America, under the leadership of Amparo Castellano, global director of non-fiction at THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO. As part of this framework, Castellano will take on the supervision of this area within CIMARRÓN as part of her international responsibilities. One of the most recent projects in this field was the production of the TelevisaUnivisión adaptation of the survival reality show El Conquistador, a project that showcases the company’s ability to adapt successful international formats for Latin American audiences.

CIMARRÓN was founded in 2018 by producers Santiago López, Diego Robino, and Hernán Musaluppi, and quickly established itself as one of the most relevant production companies in Latin America, with internationally distributed films and series for platforms such as Prime Video, HBO Max, and Netflix. Since 2023, it has been part of THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO, a stage in which it has accelerated its growth and expanded its presence, adding a Colombia office to those in Argentina, Uruguay, and Mexico, and participating in numerous original and service productions for major studios.

Among its upcoming releases, highlights include the world premiere at the Directors’ Fortnight of the Cannes Film Festival of the co‑production Double Freedom, by Lisandro Alonso; So Far, So Good, a series created by Daniel Burman that will arrive very soon on Flow following its presentation at Berlinale Series Market, and Nothing Between Us, the new film by Juan Taratuto starring Gael García Bernal and Natalia Oreiro, which will premiere on May 21 in theaters in Argentina, Mexico, and Uruguay before its release on HBO Max Latin America. The company is also a co-producer of the Spanish film Altas capacidades, directed by Víctor García León and recently released in Spain.

CIMARRÓN (THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO) is also responsible for Perros, directed by Gerardo Minutti, presented at the 2025 Málaga Film Festival, winner of Best Supporting Actress (María Elena Pérez), and selected by Uruguay for the Goya Awards; as well as production services for the films The Kiss of the Spider Woman, by Bill Condon (starring Jennifer Lopez and Diego Luna and produced by Artist Equity), and The Disappearance of Josef Mengele by Kirill Serebrennikov (Official Selection, Cannes 2025), in addition to the series Cromañón (Prime Video) and both seasons of Yosi, the Regretful Spy, winner of the Rose d’Or Latino for Best Series, three Martín Fierro Awards, and twice nominated for the International Emmy.

Recent original productions by CIMARRÓN (THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO) also include El viento que arrasa by Paula Hernández (Toronto and San Sebastián 2023), and the co-productions Levante by Lillah Halla (Semaine de la Critique, Cannes 2023) and La estrella azul by Javier Macipe (Goya for Best New Director and Best New Actor), as well as the series Barrabrava (Prime Video – Platino Award for Best Ibero-American Series), Amsterdam (HBO Max), and Sentença (Prime Video), along with its participation in the film Society of the Snow, directed by J.A. Bayona and produced by Netflix, nominated for the Oscar for Best International Feature and winner of the Goya for Best Film in 2024.
