José Ramón Garrido is a former Olympic badminton player who makes end meet as a PE teacher giving lessons at a secondary school in Vallecas.
Divorced and disillusioned, Joserra believes he’s found the diamond that can turn his life round during a school tournament: Mar, a teenage player who could provide him with the ticket to help him to fulfil his dream of visiting Jakarta, the city where former players like him are looked up to as stars.
But Jakarta’s a long way away, particularly for two strangers like Joserra and Mar. Together they’ll have to learn to put up with each other as they embark on a journey beset by dingy boarding houses and service stations that take them to Totana, Ponferrada, Torrelavega and Tardajos before they reach the Indonesian capital.
If they ever get there.
